NetBox

Coming soon

Keep prefixes, addresses and devices in NetBox instead of maintaining the same list twice.

NetBox is where a great many hosters already document their network and their racks: prefixes, addresses, devices and the relationships between them. Provibr keeps an address administration of its own, and today those two sit side by side without knowing about each other.

What is planned

  • Order of work: after the address management features now in progress
  • A NetBox install the agent can reach, with an API token you create yourself
  • No date committed, and it is not part of what you buy today

Where this stands

Coming soon. Nothing is built, and the direction of the sync is deliberately still open. If NetBox is your source of truth, tell us which way you would want it to flow.

What it does

Nothing works today, and how the two would stay in step is exactly the question still open. It is on this page so you can see that the overlap has been noticed rather than ignored.

  • One place to look things up

Prefixes, addresses and the devices they hang off, kept where your team already documents them, instead of typed into two systems that quietly drift apart.

  • The addresses Provibr hands out

Every server ordered through Provibr takes an address from a pool you defined. Those allocations are exactly the records that belong in NetBox, with the machine they were issued to beside them.

  • Writing first, reading later

Which side leads is deliberately not decided yet, but the order is: Provibr already knows which addresses it handed out, and keeping NetBox up to date with that is the safe half. Reading back is the harder one, because two systems that may both hand out an address is not a conflict rule.
